St. Pete Beach is the No. 1 beach in the U.S., according to TripAdvisor.
Multiple Tampa Bay beaches have been named among the best in the U.S. and the world by Tripadvisor, which released its annual Travelers' Choice Awards on Tuesday.
In total, five Bay area beaches landed among the top 25 beaches in the U.S., with St. Pete Beach taking the No. 1 spot. It also landed at No. 5 for the best in the world list.
Here is what a Tripadvisor user had to say about the beach:
“A great walking beach with white quartz sand, clear calm water, and seashells by the truckload. The most perfect place to watch the sunset over the ocean.”
Madeira Beach, which made its first appearance on the annual list this year, also cracked the top 10 landing at No. 9. Treasure Island Beach followed few spots behind at No. 16 and Siesta Beach landed at No. 17. Clearwater Beach came in at No. 18.
“We take Tripadvisor’s awards very seriously in St. Pete/Clearwater,” Steve Hayes, president and CEO of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, said in a statement. “We have been home to the No. 1 beach for four of the past six years, but after a devastating 2020 for travel, we’re especially honored to receive the Traveler's Choice Award this year. Our communities, including St. Pete Beach and Madeira Beach, have done an amazing job building these great destinations and keeping their beaches pristine for travelers from near and far.”
The awards are based on a combo of the quality and quantity of user reviews and ratings, as well as the volume of saves from TripAdvisor travelers over the past year. A consistent spot on these lists can serve as invaluable marketing for a beach and its surrounding community, potentially drawing in more tourists.
